The World Confederation of Billiards Sports (WCBS), is hosting its own championship for the first time in its history.
On the second day of this world-class event, the next preliminary round matches of all the six teams were on the agenda.
The day opened with a clash between Asia A and Europe A. In 3-Cushion both teams shared the points, but in Pool, the Asians prevailed through Robbie Capito (Hong Kong, China) and Annita Kan Jaya (Indonesia). With only Wendy Jans (Belgium) able to draw for Europe in Snooker, Europe now desperately needed to score in Heyball, but in the end only Kelly Fisher (Great Britain) could leave the table as a winner.
Between Team Americas and Asia B, the decision was in favor of Asia B on the Snooker tables and also in Heyball. The Asians won all four matches, so the wins of Jackeline Perez (Peru) and Hunter Lombardo (USA) in 3-Cushion and Pool were not enough for Team Americas to change the overall result in favor of Asia B.
The match between Africa & Rest of the World against the European B-Team was extremely exciting. In 3-Cushion Sameh Sidhom (Egypt) achieved a win against the multiple time World Champion Dick Jaspers (Netherlands). However, with only one other match win by Meng-Hsia Hung (Australia) and two draws in the Men’s Snooker and Men’s 10-Ball Pool for Africa & Rest of the World, the Europeans ended up ahead in the overall result.
In the match between Europe A and Asia B, the games in 3-Cushion and Snooker went in favor of the Europeans, giving them a nice lead. Asia B, however, fought back with two wins in Heyball and also won the Men’s Pool. In the end, Kristina Zlateva (Bulgaria) managed a draw against Silviana Lu (Indonesia), so that Europe A finally took a very narrow victory.
A very clear affair was the last match of the day between Team Americas and Asia A. In Snooker, Pool and Heyball, the Asians were mostly superior, while Americas only managed to win a match in 3-Cushion through Jackeline Perez (Peru).
Tomorrow, Saturday, the last matches in the round-robin mode will be played before the two semi-finals and the finals are scheduled for Sunday.s Pool and won the only match in the Women’s Heyball.
