Carlo Biado, one of the most accomplished players from the Philippines, has been named as Team Asia’s first wildcard pick. A former World Pool Champion and US Open winner, Biado has kicked off 2024 with two World Nineball Tour Ranking event victories, underscoring his status as a key figure in the line-up. His wealth of experience, coupled with his passion for the game, makes him a formidable force for Team Asia.
“I’m honoured to be selected as a wildcard for Team Asia,” said Biado. “I have great respect for Team Europe, but I believe in the strength and talent of my Team Asia. Get ready for a historic battle.”
On the European side, Team Europe welcomes the dynamic Jayson Shaw as its first wildcard pick. Known for his explosive playing style and fearless approach, Shaw is no stranger to major team events. The five-time Mosconi Cup winner and two-time MVP is widely regarded as one of Europe’s best. His inclusion further strengthens Team Europe’s chances in the inaugural Reyes Cup.
Team Europe’s captain, Karl Boyes, praised the selection: “It was an easy decision to bring ‘Eagle Eye’ Shaw to Manila. He has the passion and fire for team events. We’ve all seen what he can do in the Mosconi Cup, and we’ll see it again in the Reyes Cup. Shaw is a true team player.”
Biado will join fellow Filipino Johann Chua, alongside Aloysius Yapp and Ko Pin Yi, who all earned their places through the World Nineball Tour rankings. Shaw will reunite with former Mosconi Cup teammates Joshua Filler and Eklent Kaçi, as well as the ‘Danish Viking’ Mickey Krause, to form a fierce Team Europe.
The Reyes Cup, taking place from October 15-18 at the Ninoy Aquino National Stadium in Manila, Philippines, will pit the best players from Team Asia against Team Europe in a thrilling four-day team format inspired by the Mosconi Cup. The event honours the legendary Efren ‘Bata’ Reyes, widely regarded as the greatest pool player of all time.
The final wildcard selections for both Team Asia and Team Europe will be announced soon. Fans can register for ticket alerts for the inaugural Reyes Cup here. Ticket details to follow shortly.
