At the Dynamic Billard European Championships for Youth at the Golden Tulip Jagershorst Hotel in Leende, The Netherlands, most of the day today was dedicated to the 8-ball individuals.
In the U19, some big names dominate the quarter-final matches. The first quarter-final of course finds Fedor Gorst (RUS) who already defeated defending Champion Patrick Hofmann (GER) yesterday in the double elimination stage. Today in the single elimination, Gorst took down Bilge Alacam (TNC) 7:1 and Leon Kohl (GER) 7:3. Gorst will have to deal with Kamil Szaszor (POL), another medallist from this week and one of Poland’s best youngsters. In the second quarter-final match, Patrick Hofmann’s name can be seen. He made his way through the loser’s side and is back in the race now, playing the quarter-final tomorrow against Kasper Ostlund (SWE). The third quarter-final match features Mark Magi (EST) who won two Bronze Medals in Tirana, Albania, last year. He will face Aleksa Pecelj (SRB) who won the silver medal in 10-ball yesterday. This match is completely open and it can be predicted to be a thrilling encounter. The remaining fourth quarter-final has Atlantic Challenge Cup team member Daniel Maciol (POL) as a clear favourite over unheralded Domagoj Loncarek (CRO).
In the U17, the two „big guns“ in the field are of course defending Champion Sanjin Pehlivanovic (BIH) and Atlantic Challenge Cup team member Wiktor Zielinski (POL) who already took the Gold Medal in the straight pool competition earlier this week. Pehlivanovic had a walk in the park so far in the single elimination, exiting Daniel Todorov (BUL) 6:1 and Ole-Kristian Rudshavn (NOR) 6:2. In his next match, he will meet Christoffer Lentz (DEN). Even clearer was Zielinski’s record today. He ousted Micke Stroem (FIN) and Quinten Bongers (NED) both with 6:0, not giving away one single rack today. The signs are pointing clearly to a final between these two players.
In the girls division, Kristina Tkach sets the bar again. Her performance is constantly of such a high quality that a real challenge for her can hardly be seen. In her 8-ball tournament so far, she destroyed Darya Siranchuk (UKR) 5:0 and Nina Torvund 5:1. She has booked her seat in the quarter-finals and will probably finish very high also in the 8-ball discipline after having snatched the 10-ball trophy yesterday.
Later on today, the tournament continued with some matches from the team competition. In the winner’s qualification round of the U19, Team Poland clearly defeated Team Italy 2:0. Kamil Szaszor won the 10-ball match 7:1 over Giulio D’Egidio while Daniel Maciol outplayed Paolo Prosdocimo 8:1 in 9-ball. Defending Champions Team Germany easily overcame Team Switzerland 2:0 since the Swiss team only attended with 2 players. Team Russia and Team The Netherlands also took their match in the winner’s qualification round today.
