On May 31st at the Wiraka Billiard Academy (FoShan, China), some of the country’s top professional pool players battled out in the Aramith World 9-Ball Championship Wild Card “Bohua Ceramic Cup” (click here for details). Players included China’s Zhou Long, Xu XiaoCong, Mi Le, Kong DeJing, Taiwan’s Wu Kun-Lin, Yang Ching-Shun, Vietnam’s Nguyen Phuc Long, and Myanmar’s Phone Myint Kyaw.
The tournament ran from May 27 through to May 31; the final 8 players were produced after two rounds of China Division qualifiers.
The final match between China’s Zhou Long, the defending champion, and Taiwan’s Yang Ching Shun (Vincent), previous World 9-Ball Champion, was a casual one as both players had already earned their spots at the World Men’s 9-Ball Championship that will be staged in Qatar later on this year. Both players will received a free package each including flights and accommodation for their trip to Qatar.
Zhou is a consistent player. Along his way to the final, he beat Fu JianBo, previous World Doubles’ Champion, in the double-elimination stage with an impressive 9-2 win. Yang, the other finalist, had a tough semi-final with Mi, trailing by 6-8 before he turned around to win the match. The final match was opened with a golden break by Zhou, who stayed strong all the way till the end.
